UUFSM is governed by the By-Laws adopted by the congregation; and by the Policies and Procedures adopted and revised annually by the Board of Trustees.

The Officers of the Board of Trustees consist of a Chair; Vice Chair; Treasurer; and Secretary. The Board also includes Trustees at Large.  The Board of Trustees approves the annual budget and oversees the business affairs of the Fellowship.

Seven trustees are elected by the members of the Fellowship for two-year terms (the Secretary and three members are elected in even years, the Treasurer and two members are elected in odd years). The Treasurer and the Secretary are elected to those positions for two-year terms. The Chair and Vice Chair are chosen from the five at-large members for one-year terms.

UUFSM’s By-Laws, as adopted and revised by the full membership, authorize the Board of Trustees to conduct business affairs and administer the organization.

However, UUFSM is governed by all of the members. As members, we are not just consumers of the gifts of the church. We rent the worship space, we raise the funds, we elect our officers, and we create and submit the annual budget for final approval by the Board of Trustees. As members engaged in “congregational polity”, we have shared responsibilities that we need to take seriously. One of those responsibilities is to attend Congregational Meetings. For example, at the May Town Hall Meeting we discuss the budget, and at the June Annual Meeting we elect the officers of the Church. Business cannot be conducted without a quorum, so attendance is strongly encouraged.
