This week, we will celebrate the Jewish “birthday of the trees” with a Tu B’shevat Seder. The congregation will enjoy this earth-based tradition together, during our usual worship time, with a short ritual meal (Seder) that explores the seasons of the spirit, connecting us to the wonderful world in which we live. We will be led by Rabbi Gail Fisher, from congregation Sha’are Shalom in Waldorf. She is a member of the Union of Jewish Universalist Clergy and the Washington Board of Rabbis.
This event is appropriate for the entire family, and all are encouraged to attend in person. Together, we will create a meaningful experience of coming out of the darkness of winter into the spring, with all its hope. Please join in the joy of moving into the light and let your own sap rise!
If you prefer to attend via zoom, you’ll want to assemble the following for full participation in the Seder:
- A glass of red wine or red grape juice
- A glass of white wine or white grape juice
- A plate with the following foods:
- some fruit with an inedible outer shell, such as nuts, bananas, tangerines, mangos, coconuts
- some fruit with an inner pit, such as olives, apricots, cherries
- a fruit that can be wholly eaten, such as grapes, raisins, blueberries, strawberries
